A Time for Change

It’s Been A Terrific Experience

To all of the bloggers who visit and my favorite lurkers,

I have been doing some thinking about this blog and have decided a few things.  First, I am so appreciative of everyone who has taken time out of their day to come by and read what is written here.  I have met some really great people through blogging and never ceased to be amazed at how kind you all can be.

Second, I have always thought that if you cannot do something well, then why do it.  I am really proud of many of the posts at this blog.  My day job though does not permit me much time to write the sort of  posts that I would like to make on a regular basis and when I do have the time, I am usually so bleary, the last thing I want to do is to think.

Third, I really think that someone who has a blog should invest in the blogging community and in blogging and I do not have that kind of time to do it the right way.  I like so many blogs that I have in my sidebar and there are always others that can be investigated.  I should read my favorites every day and give comments where applicable because I enjoy reading them, but by the time I get to read things I am usually just about out of steam.  On the flip side, I am often too tired to reply to comments on my own blog and they are always very good comments.

Along that line, by the time you work a 14-18 hour day writing arguments and making arguments, I usually don’t look forward to coming home and argiung with people on my blog, especially abusive people.  I think that the virtual world has allowed some people to remove that mask of civility and to let them pour out all of their venom in virtual form.  I suppose I have had my fill of that here.  I don’t find that very interesting at all.  That is why I banned gun bloggers. So much could have been said on some of those issues that were discussed here.  I believe that no issue is black and white.  I believe that compromise is essential to any endeavor, but the politics of macho doesn’t operate that way.  So be it.

On the other hand, I see that on blogs the danger of developing a following is that you have a group of supportive people, but they are also people who agree with everything that you say, which is not good either.

So, with very little between the two extremes, where does that leave a real discourse?  I am not sure.

As you can tell, I think I have come to the end of my road here as a blogger.  I won’t say that I will never be back, but at this point, I think I have said what I can and given about all that I have to give.

It has been a terrific experience and I want to thank everyone who has been supportive of this blog and, again, thanks to all of you who have come to my blog for the past 6 months.  What an interesting and terrific experience it has been (for the most part).  Good luck to all of you and keep up the good work.

Kind regards,

Cathy

  1. No fair. I just discovered you recently. Maybe you’ll change your mind. Maybe you’ll come by my blog once in a while and say something. I guess I can always read your back posts, too.

All the best, Cathy. I hope you love that 18-hour-a-day job of yours. That’s the best when we love what we do.

  2. Sometimes you just need a break from blogging. It can feel monotonous at times. Like you are repeating yourself.

  3. Catherine,
I know how hard you work and that your life is very busy. I feel the same way about blogging a lot of times. I hope you know how very much you and your blog have meant to me over the last few months.

I won’t say bye; just see you later :) .

    Cheers!

  4. I love your blog, and I think you’re doing great work here, but I also completely understand what you are going through and how you feel. I won’t say goodbye either, but I hope you keep the blog up and maybe you’ll find that at some point you still need to express yourself. I wish you the best and I’m forever indebted to you for your kindness, your good heart and your generosity.

  5. Catherine,

You are obviously talented writer, and you are also very thoughtful advocate of liberal-moderate views, which is so much needed. But it is your passion, along with your great critical thinking abilities that make you stand out.

That and your hard work you put into this loving venture. However, I can understand the burnout factor.

I want to stay in touch with the best friend I have found on the internet who is not related to me at work, or in my own circle locally, or went to school with me.

And let’s keep talking about our common interests and goals, and perhaps very shortly we can still work together on the web!

    You are the greatest!

  7. Cathy,

I can only echo the sentiments that have been written here. I feel so blessed to have found so many wonderful people through this strange blogging universe that we find ourselves in.

I think that all of us get to this point at some time or another. The constant whirlwind of 24/7 news just makes my head spin sometimes.

Take your well deserved time away from here and if and when you feel the need to just vent or just scream out loud, we will all be here to support you.

It has been a pleasure being part of your small little world here.

  8. I’m not going to say bye either. I understand how those kind of days…and especially with the kind of work you do…can drain you. I hope you’ll leave your blog online so people can continue to read your previous posts and comments. There’s so much to benefit from! Thanks for all you’ve done. I’m glad I’ve gotten to know you (at least online) and we’ll soldier on!

  9. Gee – I just found you and admire what you do here. I am going to miss you. Please don’t take your blog down, I’ve not finished reading it and I’m sure others would echo me on this. Plus maybe you’ll take a break and well, you know…. All the best to you!

  10. I’m sorry to hear that you’re packing it in, but I can understand. I had to curtail my blogging from being a daily bit to when I had time to fit in postings in order to not put too much pressure on myself. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog and I wish you the best!

    Please keep in touch, okay?

  13. I, too, will miss your posts. You talk about important issues, and your background as an attorney has allowed you to share an important perspective with the rest of us. We all need to take a break at times, and I hope that you’ll find the time and energy to share an occasional post. Best wishes in your endeavors.
